Registered Marriage and Family Therapist, Ph.D Candidate
Krista Moreno is currently a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern and a Ph.D. student in the Family Therapy Department at Nova Southeastern University working towards a concentration in Family Systems Healthcare. She began her work after receiving her Bachelor’s in Psychology at the University of Miami in 2007. Since then, she worked towards a Master’s in Counseling at Columbia International University but ended up finishing at Liberty University with a Master’s in Human Services Counseling with a concentration in Marriage and Family as she was interested in the perspective that family systems provided. She is a member of AAMFT and the Collaborative Family Healthcare Association.
Krista Moreno’s experience and interests lie mainly in medical family therapy, grief and loss, at-risk youth, spirituality, mindfulness based approaches, and couples work. She began by working with at-risk youth, children, and their families in a variety of settings. She has worked as a behavioral specialist, in a family support role, in foster care settings, and as a youth treatment counselor in addition to training and teaching roles within the military. While serving in the Air Force, she developed vague symptoms that led to complications in receiving due diagnostic consideration, prognosis, and treatment for her mysterious illness. This search for answers helped her discover her passion for those in similar situations and under the umbrella of mysterious and contested chronic illnesses, and it is now the powering force behind her research and education. She believes strongly in the relief that a holistic and systemic approach provides and that relationships are the essence of life.
